 Wood Siding Systems The predominant material on the outside of a typical house is siding, and wood is the most common siding material.
Spanning from corner to corner and from ground to eaves, siding sets the tone for how a house looks. In addition, it's responsible for shedding rain, rejecting wind and surviving sun. Some sidings are applied over a base of solid panel sheathing, others go directly over wall studs. Some are even applied over existing siding. Between sheathing and siding, a thin layer of building felt or housewrap often provides an additional barrier between air and water infiltration.
