If you're considering a new front door and place security and maintenance
in a high priority, check out some of the new steel doors on the market.
Steel doors are much stronger than wood or fiberglass. Most are made of
heavy-gauge, galvanized steel over a wood or steel frame, with a high-density
insulation core foamed in place, giving the door structural rigidity and
high insulation values. Surfaces typically are factory-coated with vinyl
or baked-on polyester finishes and embossed with wood grain patterns. Some
types are given a wood-fiber coating that can be stained. And higher-end
models are actually laminated with a real-wood veneer.
